Item Description

There is no better spot in the world for a bike trip than the south of France, a land of spectacular natural beauty, walled medieval villages, and towering Roman arenas -- all connected by quiet roads that meander through vineyards, orchards, and forest.  You will begin in Avignon, home of the maze-like 14th century Papal Palace and the Pont d'Avignon.  Your first morning you will head for the Pont du Gard, a 2000 year-old Roman aqueduct, for a lovely country picnic.

The Provencal heads south from Avignon to the lively old Roman capital of Arles where we spend two nights.  Next comes the clifftop fortress of Les Baux, former refuge of brigands.  Finally you will reach the Luberon, a charming region of magical forests and stone villages known to readers of A Year in Provence.

This in one of Alyson Adventures' easier bike trips, with days averaging from 25-35 miles, but offering great optional routes for more experienced cyclists.

Includes:

  • Comfortable hotels each night
  • Continental breakfast every morning
  • 2 lunches and 5 dinners (wine included)
  • Van for luggage and tired riders
  • A wine-tasting
  • Map, guidebook, and routes.

September 9-15, 2007.
