The International Tennis Hall of Fame Museum and Historic Newport Casino are auctioning off a limited number of Bill Talbert Stadium Centre Courtside Chairs. You can own a piece of the history and tradition of the International Tennis Hall of Fame with a donation of $75.00. The chair comes with a signature green and gold plate depicting the origins of the chair "Bill Talbert Stadium Chair, International Tennis Hall of Fame, Newport, R.I." The first matches played at the legendary grass courts were in 1881. The chairs have been replaced little by little over the years, but it is certainly a collectors piece that holds 128 years of tradition behind it. The money collected from your donation goes directly to the Hall of Fame’s mission of to preserving the history of tennis, inspiring and encouraging junior tennis development, enshrining tennis heroes and heroines and providing a landmark for tennis enthusiasts worldwide. A portion of the Stadium Courtside chair is also tax-deductible.
These courtside chairs are in working order and are being replaced by updated resin chairs on the Stadium Court for 2009. Just think of the story you'll have everytime you pull them out to use!
