Jazzshots. “These images attest to my predilection for jazz, and my appreciation extends beyond the music’s appeal to include images of its creators.  There is much serendipity in my approach to photography. Each time I photograph, I am challenged by what I can make out of a situation that is not staged for me.” 

David Spitzer’s images have appeared in one person exhibitions in museums, such as the Art Gallery of Ontario, San Jose Museum of Art, Cedar Rapids Museum of Art, Midwest Museum of Art, and Southeast Museum of Photography.  His work has also displayed at art centers and on college and university campuses, such as the University of Cincinnati, Indiana State University, University of Louisville, Oklahoma State University, University of Northern Colorado, New Mexico State University, University of Kentucky, University of Kansas, University of Arkansas, University of Idaho, and University of Texas at El Paso. His photographs have been included in record albums and compact discs, books, and periodicals. Two of his own books, Jazzshots: a Photographic Essay (1979) and Jazz, Photographs by David D. Spitzer (1994) reveal his diverse encounters with artists representing multiple generations of jazz styles.

Technical Information: Jazzshots images are 11” x 14” printed on 13” x 19” inch Epson Enhanced Matt Paper (S041339) using Genuine Epson (T007201) black ink and (T009201) color ink. For longest exhibition without fading, these prints should be mounted under glass and exhibited inside. The photographs were initially taken with 35mm high speed film, and more recently digitally processed on a Nikon Cool Scan ED scanner. Each image will be signed by the artist on the lower white paper margin.  All images are ©David D. Spitzer.
