Item Description
Indianapolis Colts head coach Tony Dungy made history on February 4, 2007, when the Colts defeated the Chicago Bears in Super Bowl XLI by a score of 29-17. Dungy became the first African American football coach to lead his team to a Super Bowl championship. Dungy's life in football began long before that memorable day, however, as he spent four years playing quarterback at the University of Minnesota and then switched to the safety position after turning pro with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He won a Super Bowl ring as a player with the Steelers in 1978, and then spent one season with the 49ers before retiring. Dungy subsequently worked his way up the coaching ladder, serving in different assistant coach and coordinator roles at the University of Minnesota and with the Steelers and Vikings before landing a head coaching job with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and then, in 2002, the Colts. Tony Dungy has hand signed this 8x10 photograph of him being held up on the shoulders of his assistant coaches as he celebrates the Colts' win over the Chicago Bears in Super Bowl XLI on Feb. 4, 2007, in Miami, Florida. A Steiner Sports Certificate of Authenticity is included.
