Item Number 111

Item Description

Enjoy a 4 hour excursion in an antique, plushly furnished rail car for a party of twenty.  The winning bidder will have exclusive use of the rail car, which seats twenty, for his or her private party.  The car, generously provided by the New Orleans Public Belt Railroad, is pulled by a single engine and rolls, in a round trip, along much of the historic New Orleans riverfront, from the French Market Station to the crest of the Huey P. Long Bridge over the Mississippi River.

The airconditioned rail car is furnished with twenty plush seats, a full service bar, a kitchen, and a restroom.  A small rear platform is available for smokers (except on Huey P. Long Bridge).  Food and beverage costs are not included and must be separately arranged by the winning bidder (NOPB can recommend experienced caterers).

Special Instructions

This item will be auctioned only at the Live Event on June 21st.  It will have a Reserve Price of $3,000.00 and a Buy It Now price of $10,000.00.  There are special limitations on the scheduling and use of the Private Rail Car, most of which are summarized below.  For a full set of the New Orleans Public Belt Railroad policies, please contact Edna Centola at (504) 392-1934.

Important Policies:

1.  No more than twenty people in each party.  No one under 21 years of age permitted without prior approval from NOPB.

2.  Car cannot be used for political fundraising events.

3.  Winning bidder must contact NOPB no later than June 21, 2009 to schedule his/her excursion.  The car is currently booked for all available dates through April, 2009.

4.  The car is scheduled to roll only on Fridays and Saturdays, with departure times between 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm.  The car is not available on holidays, including much of the two weeks preceding Mardi Gras day, and for some special events in the French Quarter which may interfere with the train tracks.

5.  The winning bidder must provide their own food and beverage.  Because of the pristine interior of the car, certain sauces, soups, loose berries, and some dark wines are not allowed to be served.  The caterer of choice is encouraged to tour the car before the function to obtain specific instructions from NOPB management.

6.  The rail car Director and his associate will accompany each excursion.  A minimum gratuity of $100 each is required, and is not included in the winning bid price.

7.  There is no smoking in the car interior.  Smoking is permitted on the rear platform, except while on the Huey P. Long Bridge.

8.  All persons riding in the rail car must sign and deliver a "Release & Indemnification Agreement" in favor of NOPB prior to the scheduled trip.
