Spend the day with several scientists from Procter & Gamble to get a broad perspective on the multi-faceted opportunities associated with a career as a scientist. Your experience will begin at the Miami Valley Lab where you will be introduced to the management and technical elements of applied R&D by Dr. Debb Caswell and Dr. Bob Dykstra. This is where the product innovation cycle begins. Here, you will tour the labs and hold discussions with a number of P&G scientists (including Dr. Greg Miracle and Dr. Glenn Jordan) to discover how the product ingredients are designed/invented/discovered, tested, and developed for various product applications. You will then travel to the P&G Sharon Woods with Dr. Paul Tanner talking through creating products and chemical engineering. This will provide you with a sense for what it takes to translate small scale laboratory inventions to large scale product formulations to be marketed, produced and sold around the world! The scientists will also share their thoughts on the skills necessary for pursuing a successful career in the research sciences - e.g., what colleges are looking for, the types of degrees and their associated path to either a university career or an industrial career, etc. All in all, this day will provide you with a unique opportunity to discover the wide range of skills/talents utilized in a career as a research scientist.
