Item Description

A single branch of yellow hototogisu (toad lily) with graduated brown to green leaves cascades from a stylized clear hexagonal vase, against a soft gray dyed silk background. Mounted dyed-cloth shikishi 9 1/2" x 10 3/4"
Bio: KATSUJI YAMADE was trained as an oil painter but he has worked solely in rozome since 1977. Mr. Yamade takes inspiration for his work from Japanese classical poetry producing work as both rozome paintings as well as traditional kimono (more than 20-30 kimono annually). His work has been shown in all of the major exhibitions in Japan winning First Prize in the SokoKai Exhibition, in addition to the Mayor's Award, Promotion Prize and Governor's Award in other exhibitions. Yamade has taught textile design and dyeing for over 30 years and recently retired as Principal of the Kyoto Municipal High School of Art and Craft to devote time exclusively to his art.
