Thank you all for your support!

Through your participation, as a photographer, a bidder and/or a cheerleader who helped spread the word, you have given us the chance to see the world through your eyes and to know that in your view Kesher matters.

While the on-line auction for Picture What Matters has ended, your chance to view the world through the eyes of others has not. Please join us for a photo exhibition, entitled Documenting our Jewish Communities: Jewish Values in Practice.

It will take place on

Sunday, June 10 from 10am -- 12 noon
at Cambridge Cohousing,
175 Richdale Avenue in Cambridge
.

Throughout the year, the Tichon (our oldest students) have spent time examining where their values come from, how they've developed, and the role Judaism plays in them. Each Tichon student will display work in the show. The event will include speakers, guided tours, refreshments and possibly even live music!

We sincerely hope you'll be able to join us on June 10. There will be a silent auction at this event as well featuring the Picture What Matters cameras shot by the younger students iat Kesher - Shorashim, Nitzanim, Anafim and Benyim - as well as the camera shot by Kesher's founder, Marlene Booth.

How does this all tie in?

Picture What Matters was conceived in an attempt to create a fundraiser that has more to do with our programming than selling candy bars or wrapping paper. This year, the focus of our students' learning has been ethics and values. Tichon, our oldest group, which consists of about 20 teens, has been using a curriculum called The Jewish Lens. The Jewish Lens, created by Avoda Arts, is a comprehensive middle/high school curriculum that explores Jewish values and Jewish communities through the art of photography. Based on the work of renowned photographer Zion Ozeri, the program includes a hands-on component for students to document their own Jewish communities and curate exhibits of their work.

Throughout the year the Tichon have used Ozeri's photos to study technique, as well as to learn about the Jewish communities in which he has taken pictures. They've spent time examining where their values come from, how they've developed, and the role Judaism plays in them.
