The Birmingham Zoo is Alabama’s #1 tourist attraction! Through the generous support of private and corporate supporters, the zoo has continued to grow to include Approximately 750 animals of 250 species call the 122-acre Birmingham Zoo home, including sea lions, kangaroos and endangered species from six continents. The zoo educates and entertains more than 500,000 visitors each year while creating lifetime childhood and family memories. Approximately 50,000 schoolchildren visit the zoo through school field trips and through the zoo’s camps and classes, thousands more children experience the wonder of seeing the world’s wildlife.
