Want to learn more about the Miami-Dade County Public Schools' Academy of Hospitality and Tourism?
An Advisory Board comprised of distinguished industry and post secondary leaders guides the program, provides financial leadership, hires summer interns, provides student and staff enhancement opportunities and promotes the Academy. Business & Champions contribute $5000 annually.
The Academy of Hospitality & Tourism was established at Miami Springs Senior High School in 1987 as a collaborative effort between the American Express Philanthropic Foundation and Miami-Dade County Public Schools. The program exposes high school students to the wide variety of opportunities and career paths in one of the world's largest industries.
A member program of the National Academy Foundation, a national network of career-themed academies, the academies have expanded to American Senior High School, John A. Ferguson Senior High School, Hialeah Gardens Senior High School, Homestead Senior High School, Miami Beach Senior High School, Miami Norland Senior High School and Robert Morgan Educational Center. A majority of over 2000 graduates have reported that "their teachers and the Academy coursework motivated them to do better in school and seek more challenging educational experiences."
